The Cat Herd after sixty daysrather than spend a lot of time with throat clearing and wind-up, Ill just state the statistics and let the facts speak for themselves

Jen: Stands 5-9 is 34 and started off weighing 305. On day 1 Jen deadlifted 45-pounds for 5-repetitions from knee height and this past Sunday she weighed 275 and deadlifted an astounding 225 for six repetitions. She added 9-pounds of muscle so her actual fat loss was 39-pounds in sixty days. On day 1 Jen bench pressed two 7-pound dumbbells for 8-reps and this past Sunday she fired up 95 for six paused repetitions. A paused rep is much more difficult than the standard touch-and-go style. Her cardio capacity improved dramatically and I predict she’ll deadlift 300-pounds by the end of January.

Connie: Our pugnacious powerhouse is 39 and started off weighing 185 standing 5-foot even. She bench pressed two 20-pound dumbbells for 10-reps and deadlifted a 45-pound bar from knee height for 10-reps on the 1st day. This past Sunday she weighed 163 and bench pressed 95 for 15 touch-and-go reps - thats no typo. Connie squatted 150×5 and deadlifted 185×3 on day 60. She has added 10-pounds of solid muscle during the process for a total fat loss of 32-pounds. Connie has four children at home and took to the weights and cardio like a duck to water. She had a tougher time with the eating as she has to cook mac-and-cheese type meals for her five males continually. I believe shell bench press 185 by day 120.

Amira: This amazingly buoyant 57-year old gal had a difficult time with the eating. She weighed 238 at 5-7 and shed 16-pounds while adding 5-pounds of muscle for a net fat loss of 21-pounds. Amira was unable to bench press our lightest dumbbells (a pair of 7s) on day 1 and had to do incline pushups for three weeks in order to build up enough strength to perform standard bench presses. On day 60 she was able to standard bench press 65-pounds for 10-repetitions. She was unable to deadlift an empty 45-pound bar from knee height on day 1. She progressed to 95-pounds for 10-reps in the deadlift on day 60. As with all the others, she has developed a genuine love for the weights and outdoor nature walkingnow if she could just nail down the eating

Betty: Is our oldest participant at age 63. She stands a mere 5-1 and weighed 303 on day 1 with a host of health-related issues. She tipped the beam at 269 on day 60 and added 8-pounds of muscle for a net-fat loss of 43-pounds. Betty was unable to squat down at all at the start and Kirk devised a high box that allowed her (and Amira) to dip down approximately 8-inches before coming erect even at that height I had to drape two straps over a chin bar to allow her to pull herself upward: her legs were not strong enough for even that reduced stroke length. On day 1 she was unable to deadlift an empty 45-pound bar from knee height. She was unable to bench press our lightest dumbbells and used the incline pushup to build upper body strength. Betty was unable to walk 200-pace without having to rest 10-minutes. On day 59 she was able to walk the circumference of a 150-acre farm twice! Her weight training took off: on day 60 she bench pressed 70-pounds for 10 touch-and-go reps, did 10 deep squats holding a 35-pound plate in her arms and deadlifted 135×4 off the floor! Remarkable.

Ron: This 49-year old factory worker was our star: he was the only one to implement all three aspects of the fitness triad (read: the eating!) from day 1. He weighed 235 at the start and last Saturday weighed 189. He added 12-pounds of muscle in the process for a net loss of 58-pounds. His strength zoomed: Day 1 bench press, 70×10 Day 60 220×4; Day 1 squat 95×10 Day 60 205×7; Day 1 deadlift 95×10 Day 60 340×4. All the more remarkable considering he had major knee and shoulder reconstructive surgery within the past five years as a result of an industrial accident. He regularly walked outdoors around the farm burning 500-750 calories at a whack and held down a physically demanding job at the truck factory. I feel certain he will deadlift 400 weighing 181 at the end of January.

PS: I have agreed to work with all five individuals for another 60 day period on one condition - that they each enter a powerlifting competition on January 27th. Each enthusiastically agreed and each person has been given a bodyweight reduction goal. These range from 15 to 30 pounds. We have constructed individualized training templates based on realistic projected goals. None of the five has done a single progressive resistance exercise other than squat, bench press or deadlift for the past sixty days and none will do a single exercise other than squat, bench press or deadlift for the next sixty. Three weight sessions per week last 30-minutes (net time) and this will continue. Cardio intensity will be kicked up a notch and everyones eating needs to be tightened up. They are all excited and enthused about entering the competition despite the fact that none has ever seen a powerlifting meet and none had ever weight trained before September 15th. This date with destiny has infused our efforts with a sense of dramatic urgency. Collectively they have graduated from kindergarten and now (figuratively speaking) enter 1st grade. It should be interesting so stay tuned.
